C&K Components tactile switches: 2008 Product of the Year Award

Whether done as an aesthetic affectation for branding in high-end automobiles or to denote that a particular piece of medical equipment has been engaged or disengaged, the ability for an electromechanical switch to produce a distinct sound is a growing trend in many requirements. However, designers requiring this option have either been at the mercy of the inherent actuation sound of the switch they specify, or must produce the desired sound by re-engineering the devices using membranes, casings, or other filtering products — a costly and time-consuming venture when considering trying to match the numerous switches in, for example, an automobile.

The KSC ST Series sound-tunable tactile switches answer that call with a proprietary design using selected materials to enable 100% control of sound intensity levels. The result: electromechanical devices that can be tuned from high (>50 dBA) to low (<30 dBA) levels and ensure sound continuity from switch to switch. The tactile switches come in an SPST normally open configuration with J or G terminations.
